Description:

  • This disease occurs mostly in high humidity and cool temperatures. It spreads via water splashes, rain, and infected debris.

Damage Symptoms:

  • Yellow and angular spots appear on the upper surface of the leaves of infected plants. Later, these spots become necrotic.
  • The lower surface of these spots shows a purplish downy growth in moist weather.
  • The diseased leaves become yellow, curl, wither, and fall.
  • Diseased plants become stunted and may die.
  • Fruits may not mature and have a poor taste.

Preventive Measures:

  • Remove cucurbitaceous weeds around the field.
  • Grow disease-resistant varieties.

Control Measures:

  • Spray Metalaxyl at 0.2% or Chlorothalonil at 0.2%.
  • Spray Zineb at 0.3% at 10-day intervals.
