Downy Mildew

Cauliflower

Name: Downy Mildew

Scientific Name: Hyaloperonospora parasitica

Crop: Cauliflower

Description:

  • Cool and humid weather conditions, neutral to acidic soils, and high soil moisture are favourable conditions for the occurrence of this disease.

Damage Symptoms:

  • Pale yellow to greyish angular spots appear on the upper epidermis of the leaves.
  • Grey to white mould can be observed on the lower surface of the leaves.
  • The affected plant parts become curled and distorted, resulting in reduced photosynthesis.
  • In severe cases, early shedding of leaves, stunted plant growth, and poor formation of heads can be observed.

Preventive Measures:

  • Minimize overhead irrigation to reduce high relative humidity on the leaf surface and ensure proper spacing between plants.

Control Measures:

  • Apply Mancozeb, Chlorothalonil, or Metalaxyl-M.
