High humidity and intermittent rainfall are favourable conditions for the occurrence of this disease.
The pathogen primarily spreads through irrigation water.
Damage Symptoms:
Leaf blight can affect cotton plants at any stage but is most severe when the plants are 45-60 days old.
Small, irregular or round spots, ranging from pale to brown, may appear on the leaves. Each spot features a central lesion surrounded by concentric rings.
Several spots may merge, forming larger blighted areas. As the disease progresses, the affected cotton plant leaves become brittle and eventually fall off.
In some cases, lesions may also develop on the stems.
In severe cases, spots may appear on the bracts and bolls.
Preventive Measures:
Remove and destroy infected plant debris
Control Measures:
Spray Mancozeb or Copper Oxychloride at a rate of 2kg/ha.
